Truth & Reconciliation Legacy Garden

Nelson McIntyre Collegiate's Truth and Reconciliation Garden was established in September 2024. The garden, facing the busy traffic on St. Mary's Road, is abundant of orange flowers during the growing season. The orange visual represents Orange Shirt Day and the survivors and lost children of Canada's Residential School System, promoting contemplation and reflection about our role in reconciliation. Looking ahead to Spring of 2025, we will plant natural prairie plants to use our space to restore lost prairie landscape, the health of the soil, and provide habitat for butterflies, bees, and other insects essential to the ecosystem. Spring will see traditional medicine growing that will symbolize care, protection, reflection, and contemplation. Tending to the garden, spending time with the garden and helps us connect with Land, slow down, and reflect on our hopes and commitments for ensuring we do our part in reconciliation and ever better futures.
