Code of Behaviour

Student Accountability

We believe that our students should demonstrate the following values: self-respect, respect for others, and respect for property. This desired behavior should be evident in all school situations, including the classroom, field trips, sporting events, and assemblies. It is our expectation that students will be accountable for their behavior. It is the responsibility of the staff to teach and model these values and behaviors. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the staff to consistently hold students accountable to the school/Divisional guidelines in order to provide a safe learning environment.

Unacceptable Behaviour

On occasion students may make poor choices or display unacceptable behaviors. We understand that some times unacceptable behavior will occur when students are joking around or involved in horseplay. The policy of the Louis Riel School Division reflects the beliefs, guidelines, and practices that support a safe, secure, and positive learning environment. Bullying, or abusing physically, sexually, psychologically, orally, or in writing or otherwise by any person is unacceptable. The determining factor in bullying and harassment is the difference in power between the bully/harasser and the victim. This could be a difference in size, age, social acceptability, or group verses individual.

Safety Policy

Nelson McIntyre Collegiate does not tolerate conduct injurious to the personal safety of students, divisional personnel, parents, and all other persons in the school. Nelson McIntyre Collegiate shall make every reasonable effort to provide a working and learning environment for its students, staff, and visitors where individuals treat one another with respect and which shall be free from the threat of and from physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse or harassment and/or assault.

Computer and Internet Policy

Electronic information research skills are now fundamental to the preparation of citizens and future employees. Access to the Internet enables students to explore thousands of libraries, databases, bulletin boards, and other resources while exchanging messages with people around the world. Students who wish to utilize school provided Internet must first have filled out and sign the Application for the Use of Internet form in accordance with the Louis Riel Divisional Policy. Pupils and staff must adhere to school policies respecting appropriate use of electronic mail and the internet, including the prohibition of material that the school has determined to be objectionable. To remain eligible as users, students must be consistent with the educational objectives of Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. Internet access is a privilege, not a right, and therefore access entails responsibility.
