Fast Forward (Dual Credit)

Introduction to Calculus and Advanced Math 40S (MICAM40S - 1 credit), Introduction to Calculus 42U (MIC42U - 0.5 credit)

The intent of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to receive university credit in Introduction to Calculus, Math 1500 through the University of Manitoba.  This course will introduce all key aspects of introductory calculus and provide students with excellent background knowledge and test preparation.  For students who do not qualify to write the university tests, the course will allow them to gain an awareness of, and an introduction to the material, before attempting calculus in university.

The University of Manitoba requires that students achieve a mark of at least 85% in Pre-Calculus Math 40S before the dual credit course can be attempted.  They also impose the following conditions: completion of a minimum of 20 high school credits, including English 30S, Math 30S and Social Studies 30S, with an overall average of at least 80%; or completion of a minimum of 22 high school credits, including two 40-level courses, with a minimum overall average of 70%.

Students not successful in achieving 85% in Pre-Calculus Math 40S, may still take the calculus course, but they will not be allowed to write the university tests for the dual credit.  All students in the course will write term tests at Dakota Collegiate and will receive one full credit in Introduction to Calculus and Advanced Math 40S (percentage given) on their high school transcript.  Those writing the tests for the dual credit will receive an additional half credit in Introduction to Calculus 42U (no mark given) on their high school transcript.  These students will also receive three credit hours in Introduction to Calculus, Math 1500 (letter grade given) from the University of Manitoba on their university transcript.

The course is taken at Dakota while the university tests are written at the University of Manitoba.

The cost for this program includes a registration fee and a course fee.  This cost, or a portion of, may be covered by the Louis Riel School Division.

Students entering the University of Winnipeg can transfer the half credit from the University of Manitoba to the University of Winnipeg and likely many other post-secondary institutions.
