Kirk Cadman Memorial Classic and Scholarship

Kirk Cadman was a beloved student of Dakota Collegiate and Lavallee School. He cherished his time within the division. On March 1, 2023, Kirk tragically passed away following an accident. Despite the tremendous efforts to save him, Kirk's story took a heroic turn. Through organ donation, Kirk saved seven lives, including the recipient of his heart. His selflessness and courage have made him a hero.

Kirk holds the provincial record in the 400m hurdles and was part of the record-holding 4x400m relay team. His perseverance and determination were most evident when he overcame a dislocated knee, an injury doctors believed would end his running career. Undeterred, Kirk transitioned to racewalking and became one of the top five in Canada in the U18 section. Remarkably, he later returned to running, breaking two provincial records and solidifying his legacy in Manitoba's athletics community.

To honour Kirk's memory, Athletics Manitoba has established the Kirk Cadman Memorial Classic, a track and field event. This event commemorates Kirk's athletic achievements, his indomitable spirit, and the message of never giving up on one's dreams. Additionally, a scholarship in his name will continue to inspire and support young athletes courteously of The Winnipeg Foundation, Athletics Manitoba, and Winnipeg Optimist Athletics.

We warmly invite the Louis Riel School Division community to join us in celebrating Kirk's life and legacy. As part of the event, a ceremonial 400m walk will be held to symbolize Kirk's resilience and perseverance. We encourage everyone to come down to the track from the stands and participate in this walk in Kirk's honour. The walk will take place on July 6.
