Middle and Late Immersion French Language Programs

How is the Middle Immersion program structured?

We've had remarkable success with the program, offered since 2006 at École Julie-Riel and 2019 at École Henri-Bergeron. Students spend a three-year period, from Grade 4 to 6, in an intensive French Immersion experience before integrating into classes with students from Early French Immersion in Grade 7 at their catchment school to continue their studies to the end of secondary school.

How will the Late Immersion program be structured?

• Middle Immersion (Grade 4 entry)
   Offered at École Henri-Bergeron, École Julie-Riel and École Sage Creek/Bonavista
• Late Immersion (Grade 6 entry)
   A new program in LRSD to be offered at École Van Belleghem 

The Late Immersion will provide students an intensive French language learning experience beginning in Grade 6. While currently offered elsewhere in Manitoba, LRSD will be introducing the program at École Van Belleghem, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. After studying together for three years, students will integrate with students from the Early and Middle Immersion programs as they enter Grade 9.
