Louis Riel School Division teachers are leveraging technology through the implementation of PowerSchool Gradebook to enhance assessment practices and better capture learner agency and potential. As teachers navigate PowerSchool Gradebook, focused discussions around dynamic, formative, and summative assessment are taking place. The implementation of PowerSchool Gradebook has provided the opportunity for school teams to focus on dynamic, outcomes-based formative assessment practices which, over time, will result in summative assessments that are fair, valid, reliable, and more accurate in their measurement of learning.
The use of PowerSchool Gradebook has been successfully implemented in all LRSD high schools. Professional learning opportunities were offered through a train-the-trainer model, in addition to tutorial videos and manuals created to support teachers for their initial setup and implementation in term one of 2024-2025.
Elementary schools were surveyed in August, and eight schools have identified assessment, evaluation, and reporting to be a staff-wide focus. Six schools have committed to piloting PowerSchool Gradebook in Grades 1-6, and eight schools have committed to piloting PowerSchool Gradebook in Grades 7-8 in the 2024-2025 school year. An additional four schools have formal expectations of PowerSchool Gradebook to be used in selected subject areas in Grades 1-8. École Van Belleghem, Nordale School, and Hastings School are piloting in Grades 1-8 in all subject areas.
