1.1 Community Schools Network

Welcome to the Louis Riel School Division’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) 2023-27 action pages. For each strategic action, we are diligently taking steps to achieve our goals. Together, these goals strive to create the best possible educational environment for students, staff, and community. On these pages, you will find answers to two key questions: What have we done so far? And where do we plan to be by 2027?

The Rene Deleurme Centre (RDC) provides equity-based programming tailored to meet the needs of the community. Initially serving the Lavallee, Victor Mager, and Victor Wyatt school communities, RDC has since expanded its reach to include St. George School, Hastings School, and École Varennes.

  • RDC brings together a diverse group of community stakeholders, including:
  • Newcomer Settlement Services Team: Federally funded to support newcomers.
  • School and Family Community Connector: Provincially funded through the Community Schools mandate.
  • Morrow Avenue Early Childhood Learning Centre: A private childcare provider.
  • EDGE: A non-profit organization offering literacy and adult EAL programs, leasing space at RDC.

The need for responsive community programming across the division is clear. The centre has extended its efforts to schools in the northern part of our division, including Marion School, Archwood School, École Provencher, and École Henri-Bergeron.

As a result, there is now consideration for establishing a satellite location in the northern part of the Louis Riel School Division.

What have we done so far?

  • Upgraded to include a commercial-grade commissary kitchen, supporting the Universally Accessible Nutrition program across Louis Riel School Division’s 40 schools.
  • Brought together various stakeholders to gather community feedback and assess programming at the current location.
  • Conducted a review of northern division spaces to identify facilities with available room.
  • Adopted Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching to value multilingual learners’ skills and experiences and to shift mindsets to an asset-based perspective.
  • Gathered feedback from communities comprising the Windsor Park and Nelson McIntyre Families of Schools and Collège Béliveau to determine what programming would be valued and needed.

Where do we plan to be by 2027?

  • Settlement Services
  • Food Security
    • Fresh Food Box Program
  • Manitoba Housing
  • Access to Clothes Washer and Dryer and clothing
