3.5 Specialized Learning Spaces

Welcome to the Louis Riel School Division’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) 2023-27 action pages. For each strategic action, we are diligently taking steps to achieve our goals. Together, these goals strive to create the best possible educational environment for students, staff, and community. On these pages, you will find answers to two key questions: What have we done so far? And where do we plan to be by 2027?

What have we done so far?

Currently, 13 students from grades 6, 7, and 8 meet daily for an afternoon of enrichment. This program includes Indigenous Land-based learning and experiences focused on reciprocity, relationality, identity, and community. Additionally, it offers holistic programming centered around positive relationships and wellness.

  • A working group and external resources have been established for some spaces that have already been created in the city.
  • The target audience has been decided: children who are currently being sent out of the division for support.
  • All learners are supported, ensuring that students needing specialized support can receive it within the division.
  • The first phase of the project started by September.
  • Land-based programming is being implemented.

Where do we plan to be by 2027?

  • Aim to create a family wrap-around approach that supports the whole family.
  • Provide holistic student supports.
  • Offer after-school programs, food, and activities to ensure students and their families have time together.
