Ramadan 2025
Today at sundown, Muslims around the world will mark the beginning of Ramadan, one of the holiest months of year. For those observing this month of prayer and spiritual rejuvenation, fasting will occur from pre-dawn to sunset. Ramadan can also be an extremely social time for Muslims to gather for breakfast and prayer. Mosques and neighbourhood organizations often host community dinners to break their fast together. Breaking one’s fast with dates or water is a traditional culinary custom associated with Ramadan. Muslims in different countries also have a variety of special dishes and desserts for Ramadan, specific to their country.
Canada’s Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities reminds us that Ramadan is a time to recommit to upholding the values of peaceful coexistence and the importance of standing up against hatred. “Islamophobia, and all forms of hatred and discrimination, have no place in Canada.”
