Welcome to Full-Day K: More Time to Discover, Learn, Grow, and Play!
A month into implementing Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK), the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) is already seeing positive impacts on students and families. As part of LRSD’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) 2023-2027, specifically strategic action 4.3, this initiative is an important step toward supporting early childhood learning and well-being.
Thanks to a local taxpayer investment of $2.57 million, FDK has now been expanded to all 30 LRSD schools that offer early childhood programming. This funding covers the cost of 22 additional teaching staff, 12.5 new educational assistants, and a one-time furniture and resource update to accommodate the growing number of students. The initiative also brings about transportation cost savings, ensuring an efficient and comprehensive approach to early childhood education.
The addition of FDK not only aligns with the division’s strategic priorities but also helps address a growing need for full-day programming that supports working families while providing students with a nurturing and engaging learning environment. By extending learning time, students are given a stronger foundation to develop essential skills that will carry them throughout their academic journey.
Stay tuned for more updates on how Full-Day Kindergarten is shaping the future for our youngest learners!
