MAG Community Update - October 10th

A reminder that there are no classes due to the holiday on Monday, October 14th.

News from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC):

The first PAC meeting of the year will be held TONIGHT (Thursday, October 10th) at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. All community members are encouraged to attend, whether you are able to attend only occasional meetings, attend regularly, or hope to be part of the PAC executive. We hope to see you then!

MAG Students Doing Wonderful Things:

Please see this web story about our students’ work over the last few months to update the sign at the south end of our school with an indigenous perspective.

Congratulations to MAG students and families for raising $650 through our Terry Fox Fundraiser

Nutrition Program:

Yesterday (October 9th), we made individual packages of apple slices available to all students who wanted to try them, in addition to their regular snack. This is part of an effort to raise awareness for snack options that we have available for students who are hungry. We are hoping to try a similar offering with baby carrots next week, once they are available from our supplier. At any given time, students expressing they are hungry can ask their teacher or the school office for a snack or lunch. We will not turn away students asking for food, so we encourage you to discuss with your children the goal of these offerings being available to whoever should need them, whether that is those whose access to food might be limited, or others who might have forgotten a snack or lunch from time to time. If you have preferences about your child accessing such snacks or not, we encourage you to discuss with them and to reach out to your classroom teacher, as needed.

Student Information System and School Fees:

There continue to be glitches with the divisional launch of the School Cash system. Although some families may be able to access and pay fees online, others might not. We will provide updates as we have them and are able to accept payment of school fees by cash or cheque at this time for those with this preference.

Collecting Gently Used Equipment:

Our Phys. Ed. team continues to look for fun and new ways of providing access to outdoor activities for all students. To support that programming, we welcome any donations of hockey skates (particularly larger sizes), hockey helmets, small bikes or stride bikes, and bike helmets. Any items can be provided to the school office.

Divisional News:

LRSD is once again collecting clean, gently used winter clothing throughout the month of October. Please see the attached flyer with information and drop-off locations. Also note that we will soon be sharing information about a Koats for Kids drive at the school to coincide with our United Way charity drive in October and November.LRSD Clothing Drive Poster 2024.docx
