École Henri-Bergeron is a Grade 4 to 6 middle immersion and Grade 5 to 8 French Immersion school located in the heart of old St. Boniface. Our location in this French quarter makes us ideally situated to access authentic opportunities for students to practice and use their second language skills. École Henri-Bergeron draws its population from Norwood and St. Boniface with a total enrolment of approximately 222 students. Responsive to the needs of the community, our school houses a Before-and-After-School program: Happiness Is.

Mission

Students at École Henri-Bergeron experience success as learners in both official languages, in a climate of mutual respect, care and trust.

School History

The school was named in 1998 for the well-known radio and television announcer M. Henri Bergeron (1925-2000). This native son of Manitoba was the founding radio host for CKSB Saint-Boniface, the first French radio program in Western Canada. He later left his home province to pursue an illustrious career in both radio and television. He is best known as the host for the popular CBC program Les Beaux Dimanches which he presided over for 18 years. In addition to his many responsibilities as a radio and television celebrity M. Bergeron also authored four books from 1989 to 1998.

The school, formerly known as Queen Elizabeth School, was renamed after the amalgamation of the former Norwood and Saint-Boniface School Divisions. The selection committee chose the name École Henri-Bergeron due to M. Bergeron's commitment to promote the French language and to ensure the continuation of a bilingual society in Manitoba as well as the rest of Canada.
