Darcy Cormack Appointed Assistant Superintendent
At the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) Board of Trustees public meeting on Oct. 5, the Board confirmed the appointment of Darcy Cormack to Assistant Superintendent, effective immediately. Following the reductions to core management mandated by the provincial government in 2019 and 2020, this is not an additional executive position because the division will not be filling the recently vacant Assistant Secretary-Treasurer/Director of Finance position at this time. This means that we continue to respect the provincial government’s previous mandate by maintaining the reduced size of our core management team.
Darcy enters this new role with a wealth of teaching, leadership, and community outreach experience. Since 2019, Darcy has worked as a Divisional Principal, helping create a welcoming learning environment that honours community and builds on the strengths of students. She has worked closely with the team at the René Deleurme Centre (RDC) and the LRSD Indigenous Education Team to help develop a culture of equity and inclusion within the division. In 2020, she was instrumental in launching the LRSD Learning from Home School to meet the needs of families whose children could not attend in-person classes due to the pandemic.
Darcy began her career in LRSD in 1990 (formerly the St. Vital School Division) as a Grade 2 teacher at Minnetonka School. She continued on to teach elementary students at Lavallee School between 1992 and 1998, with a brief pause to share her teaching expertise in Melbourne, Australia from 1995 to 1996.
From 1998 to 2001, Darcy was a Student Services Teacher at Darwin School before being appointed as Vice-Principal at Minnetonka School in 2003 and Vice-Principal at Niakwa Place School in 2006.
In 2006, she was appointed Principal of Niakwa Place School before moving to Island Lakes Community School in 2011 and Lavallee and RDC in 2016.
As Assistant Superintendent, Darcy will work alongside the Nelson McIntyre and Dakota Collegiate Family of Schools. I am confident the 12 schools encompassed in those catchment areas will be well served under her guidance and servant leadership.
Please join me in welcoming Darcy to this position.
