The LRSD Board of Trustees accepted Susan Ciastko’s retirement notice on February 4, 2025.

A lifelong learner, Susan earned her Bachelor of Education from The University of Winnipeg in 1991. She furthered her professional growth by obtaining a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Education from the University of Manitoba in 2001, followed by a Master of Education in 2011.

Susan began her teaching career in 1991 with a start overseas in the Republic of the Maldives. Upon returning to Canada, she worked as a substitute teacher in both the St. Vital and Seven Oaks School Divisions. Between 1997 and 1999, she taught in various capacities at St. George School, Minnetonka School, Victor H.L. Wyatt School, and Glenwood School before securing a permanent role at Glenwood School in 2000.

Susan’s passion has always been in Student Services. She is deeply committed to her students, demonstrating a genuine interest in their success and working tirelessly to plan programs that best meet their diverse needs.

In 2004, Susan advanced her career as a Skills for Living Program and Cooperative Education Teacher at Dakota Collegiate, deepening her skills in special education. This led to her appointment as teacher in the Transition for Success program at the René Deleurme Centre, where she helped implement this divisional offsite alternative program.

In 2013, Susan entered school administration as Vice-Principal at Dakota Collegiate. She later served as Vice-Principal at Glenlawn Collegiate for two years, followed by four years as Vice-Principal at Hastings School. In 2019, she returned to St. George School as Vice-Principal, and in 2022, she was appointed Principal. In this role, Susan focused on strengthening connections between the school and its community, bringing her career full circle.

Susan values collaboration with colleagues, fostering respectful interpersonal relationships and creating a working environment built on care, trust, and recognition of each individual’s unique talents, skills, and abilities. Guided by the belief that education is a lifelong process shaped by all life experiences, Susan’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, enriching her students and the broader school community.

We thank Susan for her 27 years dedicated to education. We wish her all the best in her next adventure, retirement!
