Imagine the Future
The Louis Riel School Division's Career and Post-Secondary Symposium (CAPS) on Nov. 14, themed "Imagine the Future," was a resounding success, drawing a large crowd of students and job seekers eager to explore their futures. Over 125 guests, businesses, and post-secondary institutions gathered at the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre (LRATC) to engage in meaningful career conversations with more than 800 parents and students.
The event featured several unique spaces and activities:
- Post-Secondary Space: Representatives from various institutions provided information and guidance.
- Career Cafe: Industry professionals shared insights and advice.
- RBC Mock Interview Centre: Offered practical interview experience.
- Newcomer Support Display: Provided support for newcomers.
- Live Job and Volunteer Centre: YES MB, Volunteer Manitoba, and Economic Development Winnipeg facilitated job and volunteer opportunities.
- Volatus Aerospace' Cage of Drones': Attendees learned the art of flying drones.
- Career Cloud: Students expressed their career aspirations.
Noah Wilson and Scott Angus led a cohort of LRSD student entrepreneurs in presenting "The Art of the Entrepreneur," offering valuable insights into entrepreneurship. The event also featured a one-eyed owl from the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre and two pet therapy dogs from the Winnipeg Humane Society, adding a unique touch to the evening.
Special recognition goes to the Baking and Pastry Program at LRATC for providing delicious pastries and to the Applied Business Management Program for keeping the popcorn flowing throughout the event.
The Arts and Technology Centre was alive with sage advice, wide-eyed curiosity, eureka moments, plan validations and iterations, sudden realizations, promising networking, and numerous 'aha' moments, making it a memorable night for all involved.
