Kids and Classrooms in Pulberry Area of North St. Vital
The Louis Riel School Division continues to address enrolment and school capacity challenges across the division. In the Pulberry area of North St. Vital, two elementary schools that share a school yard have two very different enrolment realities. Student enrolment that exceeds the school’s capacity is expected to continue rising at École Marie-Anne-Gaboury, while a low enrolment at Hastings School is expected to remain constant.
Senior administration has visited both schools – Hastings School on February 13 and École Marie-Anne-Gaboury on February 24 – to share enrolment challenges and to discuss a solution. During those meetings, we stated that we would provide answers to the questions posed and provide ways for the parent communities to share more of their questions and ideas before we make a decision.
This conversation is by no means finished. We want to hear from as many parents in the communities as possible – it is important that we consider all suggestions and concerns. We have future meetings planned with both school groups. Tentatively, the next one will be March 12 at Hastings School for Hastings parents.
Please consider reading the attached document, Kids and Classrooms in the Pulberry Area of North St. Vital, for some information that provides the background and answers to questions parents have asked thus far. Parents have expressed concern about their children potentially having to change schools, and we recognize the sensitivity of this issue. After reviewing the document, please provide us with the following information:
- What further questions do you have concerning these challenges?
- What additional criteria to the ones outlined in the document do you believe will be helpful for us to consider before making a decision?
- Would you, as a parent or group of parents like to arrange for a smaller meeting with senior administration?
Submit this using our contact form here. All questions and concerns will be considered as we move forward.
